CETA and Employers - Finding Each Other?

The employer grouping (including Master Builders South Africa) that had suspended its participation at CETA late last year, has now agreed to participate once again. This follows a facilitated meeting between the parties which resulted in a list of common objectives to be explored.

At the top of the list is a legal compliance audit to ensure good governance and sound financial practice. Other issues such as research, funding for training and CETA's role in transformation are also included.

It is generally accepted that there needs to be more focus on skills development issues, and less time and energy spent on politics. It has been recognised that the relationship between various parties is a key factor on determining the effectiveness of CETA.

A follow-on discussion will take place at the end of February.
