SACLAP Calling For Nominations.

South African Council for the Landscape Architectural Profession (SACLAP) is calling for nominations.

In terms of section 3.1 of the Landscape Architectural Profession Act No 45 of 2000, the council consists of members appointed by the minister taking into account, among other things the principles of transparency and representivity, The Government Gazette outlines the criteria, as follows:

a. Six registered persons, excluding candidates of whom at least four must actively practice in the landscape architectural profession
i Who must be nominated by the voluntary associations and any registered person; and
ii. Who must represent the categories of registered persons contemplated in Section 18, in the prescribed manner
b. Two professionals in the service of the State nominated by any sphere of government, of whom at least one must be nominated by the department; and

c. Two members of the pubic nominated through an open process of public participation.

In terms of the Section 4.(1) When any nominations in terms of section 3(1)(a) or (b) becomes necessary, the council must invite registered persons, voluntary associations and the State, respectively, in the prescribed manner, to nominate within a period of at least 60 days from the date of the invitation, persons who qualify for nomination in terms of the section 3(1 )(a) or (b), respectively.

When any nomination in terms of 3(1)(c) becomes necessary, the council must invite the public, by notice in the Gazette and in any newspaper the council considers necessary, but in at least a leading newspaper in each province, to nominate persons for appointment to the council within a period of at least 60 days from the date of the notice.

Government Gazette further informs us that the following should be noted:
  • The nominations should be made on the nomination forms available from the Secretariat (email: / Tel: 011 789 1384) or on the Council's website (
  • All nominations are to be supported by completed acceptance forms and 1 page curricula vitae of Nominees.
  • Successful Nominees will be apPOinted in their own right and not as representatives of any particular organization/so
  • All Nominees must be South African citizens and ordinarily resident in the Republic.
  • Nominations must be submitted to the Secretary ( I 011 789 1385) no later than 1 June 2009. No late nominations will be considered.
